CXV. Bear Within Me

In a land shrouded in mist and mystery, where the mountains kissed the sky and the rivers sang lullabies, there lived a stunning woman named Samanta. Her beauty was said to rival that of the stars themselves, captivating all who beheld her. Yet, beneath her enchanting exterior lay a dark secret—a curse woven by a vengeful witch.

Long ago, Samanta had been a simple maiden, loved dearly by a humble woodcutter. Their love was pure and true, but jealousy brewed in the heart of a wicked sorceress who desired Samanta for herself. In a fit of rage, the witch cast a dreadful curse upon Samanta: “When confronted with true love, you shall transform into a bear, overwhelmed by an insatiable hunger to consume that which you hold dear!”

Samanta wept bitterly, knowing that her heart would forever be trapped in a battle between love and despair. She fled into the depths of the forest, seeking solace among the ancient trees that whispered secrets of old. Yet, as fate would have it, she could not escape the pull of destiny.

Years passed, and tales of Samanta’s beauty spread far and wide, drawing suitors from distant lands. Among them was a daring pirate named Captain Thorne, known for his charm and bravado. He sailed across treacherous seas with dreams of finding treasure but found himself enchanted by the legend of the mysterious woman hidden deep within the woods.

One fateful evening, under the glow of a full moon, Captain Thorne ventured into the heart of the forest. He stumbled upon Samanta as she sat beside a shimmering pond, her gaze lost in thought. Captivated by her ethereal beauty, he approached her with a single red rose—a symbol of his affection.

“Fair maiden,” he declared with bravado, “I have braved storms and battled foes to find you! Will you accept this token of my love?”

As Samanta reached for the rose, an overwhelming sensation washed over her. Her heart raced as if it were caught in a tempest. In that moment, she felt the weight of the curse bearing down upon her. Her eyes rolled back in her head as darkness enveloped her.

With a bone-chilling roar that echoed through the forest, Samanta transformed into a magnificent bear—her fur as dark as midnight and eyes gleaming with ferocity. The hunger surged within her like wildfire; she craved not just any prey but the very essence of love that had awakened this monstrous form.

Captain Thorne stood frozen in shock as the beautiful woman he adored morphed into a fearsome beast before his eyes. But instead of fear, exhilaration filled his heart. “She loves me!” he screamed with glee, believing himself victorious over fate itself.

Yet, as Samanta lunged forward with primal instinct, he realized too late that love can be both tender and terrifying. The bear’s powerful jaws closed around him in an embrace both fierce and fatal.

The forest fell silent as Captain Thorne’s cries faded into echoes of despair. In that tragic moment—the culmination of love's sweet promise turned bitter—the tale became one of warning: true love can unleash both beauty and beast.

And so it was that Samanta roamed the woods as both woman and bear—a tragic figure bound by a curse that spoke to the duality of love itself: tender yet ravenous, beautiful yet deadly.
